Here is the May issue for you!

Join us for another Open Studio at Digital Art Academy as we paint our way through the Italian countryside. The emphasis of this session will be to identify some of the most common composition problems and learn how to correct them. Students will work from reference images provided by your instructor. Students will learn about some of the tools available in Painter that can help you compose a better composition, as well as learn how to make some of your own.

Course Begins: January 29th – Four weeks.

Live Session: Live sessions will be held on Saturday mornings at 9am PST.

Week One
Composition-A matter of good color and values.

Focus will be on identifying the components that make up a well composed landscape painting. Some considerations will be placing the focal point, guiding the observer’s eye through the picture to maintain interest, and understanding the importance of good color and values.

Week Two
Editing Your Painting

Students will work on editing in and editing out information from their reference image. It is more than simplification and involves learning to see things differently. Changing angles and looking up or down on the view.

Week Three
Working With Tone and Color

Students will complete several exercises which should help them to understand more about the value of tone in our paintings. Students will paint a landscape which explores the various attributes of adding tone to our paintings.

Week Four
Drawing Exercises-Water

Water is a fascinating subject to paint. This week our painting will concentrate on various techniques to paint water in your landscape painting. Exercises using watercolor, pencils and chalk will be included. Common elements that tend to be left out or ignored will also be explored.

Learn Digital Print Embellishment at the Digital Art Academy

John Singer Sargent is a master in painting and when you look at his work, you could be disheartened because you think you couldn’t be like him. Sometimes, you think that you will just be an ordinary painter that can never master the art of painting. But, you don’t need to worry that much because it will come if you have the same sort of determination to learn and improve your art like what Sargent had.

I am a few days behind the curve but John has released a new brush set for CS5. If you have been struggling with a decent chalk/pastel emulation then this brush set is for you.

Digital Art Summit is going live next week

What the heck is the Digital Art Summit? Great question, a few days ago I was not sure either. Here is the what and why of the summit.

I was trying to find ways to bridge the summer gap at Digital Art Academy. Classes are finishing up tomorrow from this session and the new session doesn’t start until the end of August. That seems like a long time, for an ADD guy that is like a lifetime.

My friend and the founder of Digital Art Academy Karen Bonaker suggested putting together some webinars. That got me thinking, dangerous I know but it happens on rare occasions. Who haven’t I heard from in awhile? Who have I been talking to recently? Who would other digital artists like to hear from? I began compiling a list and making phone calls to stir the pot. The overall call or email post was something like this, “Hey Jeremy this is Tim, I am putting together some webinars this summer would you have any interest in teaching?”

A bunch of people said yes I would love to but I am booked, another bunch of people said shoot yes I am in. On a few rare occasions I still have not heard because of vacations or other stuff. The bottom line is we have an incredible line up of people lined up to share their digital painting prowess via webinar with you. Some FREE and others very inexpensive.
